Operational experience before legal practice
Before opening the firm, Malcolm spent more than a decade inside Florida skilled nursing facilities — first as an occupational therapist working across multiple buildings, then as a director of rehabilitation, then as the licensed administrator accountable for a facility’s entire operation: surveys, staffing, budgets, payer relationships, incident response, and the daily decisions that never make it into a textbook.
In those roles he prepared for and responded to state surveys, managed HIPAA investigations and corrective-action plans, negotiated vendor and therapy contracts, built compliance training and quality-improvement processes, and sat with residents’ families working through capacity, guardianship, and payment questions.
He is a Florida-licensed attorney, a licensed nursing home administrator, and a licensed and registered occupational therapist (OTR/L), and holds a JD, an MBA, and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT).
The result is a particular kind of counsel: when a client calls about a survey response, a records demand, or a stuck discharge, the situation is familiar — not theoretical.
